Support Weatherhead
Special Gifts
The cornerstone of Weatherhead’s development efforts is to partner with you to create a highly individualized match between your interests and the School’s needs. In addition to the Annual Fund whose unrestricted gifts create an immediate and valuable philanthropic base for Weatherhead and where participation rates affect our rankings, there are numerous ways to make a contribution that will advance our educational and research mission, support our strategic goals, and meet your philanthropic goals. Listed below are some of the investment vehicles that can be used to support Weatherhead.
Outright Gifts
Gifts of cash, (the Annual Fund and matching gifts fall into this category) securities, and appreciated stock provide immediate assistance to the School. We can help you devise the best giving plan to maximize tax benefits. Appreciated stock owned for at least one year, for example, can return significant tax benefits and eliminate capital gains tax.
Endowment Funds
Establishing an endowment fund at the Weatherhead School of Management is a meaningful way to honor or memorialize family members, friends, a faculty member, or to remember the contribution a Weatherhead education made to your life. These donated funds are assets held in perpetuity and are invested to generate income to be spent for purposes designated by the donor.
Endowment funds may be in the form of a gift while living, a gift in one’s will, or a life income gift - which can provide you or your designee with income over a lifetime or a term of years.
Named Scholarships and Endowed Professorships
A common use of directed funds, whether endowment or outright gifts, is to create named scholarships and endowed professorships that help us attract and retain the best talent. Having outstanding students and faculty at Weatherhead provides the strongest promise for our future. Student recipients contribute to the professional achievement of the class and provide the foundation on which the Schools’s rankings and world-wide reputation are built.
Supporting Programming
A very common use of directed funds, whether endowment funds or outright gifts, is to support cutting edge academic research and programs of the School. This integral support strengthens our core mission and provides the School flexibility to make dramatic redesigns of the curriculum to allow for a higher level of integration and create key areas of focus.
Capital Contributions
The Weatherhead School is comprised of two learning centers, the landmark Peter B. Lewis Building and executive education’s George S. Dively Building. We continuously maintain and upgrade these facilities to assure they remain high quality, world-class facilities. Generous support from hundreds of donors helps us make the capital improvements to the spaces in which we teach, learn, and work.
Previous capital improvement donations have ranged from $5,000 to design and create a computer/printing lab to $300,000 to update technology in the Peter B. Lewis Building. We are currently working on a menu of available rooms/spaces options in both buildings.
