Appreciative Inquiry Certificate in Positive Business and Society Change

Designed by AI co-originators Dr. David Cooperrider and Dr. Ronald Fry, this program presents a proven approach to accelerating organizational change by redirecting focus to core strengths.  Through a combination of coursework and fieldwork, earn advanced professional education in the foundations of AI and work on projects specific to your own organization.  Bridges high ideals with the results orientation of business and industry.

Coursework for the Certificate:

A Certificate is awarded after completion of a three-part sequence outlined below.

Part I: Foundations and Frontiers in Appreciative Inquiry (3.5-day In-Class Program)
Discover how and why Appreciative Inquiry works through case studies and illustrations. Learn how to ask the questions that open the floodgates for positive change, engage the whole system, and generate measurable results.

  • AI in action - Case studies, stories, illustrations
  • Questions that make positive change possible
  • Engaging the whole system in change
  • Develop a project for your organization

Foundations and Frontiers in AI may be taken separately without completion of the entire certificate program.

Part II: Field Work:

An Inquiry into the Stories and Lives of Leaders in the Field
Join in a global inquiry on business as an agent of world benefit by conducting five appreciative interviews with social and business change leaders to capture golden innovations and visions of a future where business and society are even more positively connected.

The Monthly AI Learning Conferences
Participants around the world connect with Weatherhead faculty and colleagues through periodic internet mediated coaching and conference calls.

The Certificate Program Qualifying Portfolio
Participants move to a new level of capability by preparing two papers: a report on their inquiries with five leaders in the field and an analysis of their own projects.

Part III: The Advanced Workshop on AI (3-day In-Class Program):
In this capstone session, participants experience the power of appreciative learning through interactive feedback sessions on AI projects.

Instructors

David L. Cooperrider, PhD, Professor of Organizational Behavior. As a co-originator of Appreciative Inquiry, Dr. Cooperrider is an expert in positive organizational change. He is the co-author of several books including the Appreciative Inquiry Handbook and Appreciative Inquiry: A Positive Revolution in Change. His work has been covered in The New York Times, Fast Company, Human Resources Executive Magazine and Training Magazine. In addition, he consults for organizations such as American Express, BP America, and the U.S. Navy. Dr. Cooperrider earned his PhD from Case Western Reserve University.


Ronald Fry, PhD
, Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior and Faculty Director of the Executive MBA Program. Dr. Fry, a co-founder and authority of Appreciative Inquiry, has recently co-edited Appreciative Inquiry and Organizational Transformation: Reports from the Field (Quorum, 2001) and has developed and conducted a certificate program in Appreciative Leadership and Organizational Capacity Building in over 30 countries. He also consults with a variety of organizations including The Lubrizol Corporation, Roadway Express, and the U.S. Navy. Dr. Fry received his PhD from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
